How Much Will Retatrutide Cost? What We Know So Far
Retatrutide has no price yet. What Lilly has said, what Zepbound and Wegovy cost in 2026, likely price scenarios, insurance outlook and the launch timeline.

Nobody knows the retatrutide cost yet, because retatrutide is not for sale. Eli Lilly has not set a price and says it will do so only after FDA review. What we can do is look at how Lilly prices its current weight-loss drugs, what insurers and Medicare are doing in 2026, and what that suggests for a 2027 or 2028 launch.
Here is the honest picture: what is known, what is a reasonable guess, and what the "retatrutide" being sold online right now actually is.
Retatrutide Cost: The Short Answer
- 1Retatrutide has no price because it is not approved. Lilly plans to file for FDA approval in the first quarter of 2027.
- 2If approved on a normal timeline, the earliest realistic launch is late 2027 or 2028.
- 3Lilly's comparable drug, Zepbound, has a list price of about $1,086 a month, with self-pay vials from $299 to $449 a month through LillyDirect.
- 4Lilly says it will price retatrutide "to reflect the overall value to the healthcare system," which is the same language it used before Zepbound and Foundayo launched.
- 5Anything sold today as retatrutide, "GLP-3" or "reta" is an unapproved research chemical, not Lilly's drug.
Why There Is No Retatrutide Price Yet
Drug prices in the United States are set by the manufacturer at launch, usually days before a product goes on sale. Retatrutide is still in phase 3 trials, so there is nothing to price. As of October 2026, Lilly has finished the main obesity trials and says the data package is complete, but it is still gathering manufacturing information and plans to submit its application in early 2027. We track every step in retatrutide approval watch.
There is one more wrinkle. Lilly wants to file retatrutide as a biologic (BLA), which would give it 12 years of market exclusivity, while FDA has argued it should be filed as a regular drug (NDA), with 5 years. That dispute is in the courts. It does not change the launch price, but it affects how long Lilly can charge it before cheaper versions appear.
What Lilly Charges for Similar Drugs Today
The best clue to retatrutide's future cost is how Lilly prices Zepbound (tirzepatide), its current injectable weight-loss drug, and Foundayo (orforglipron), its new weight-loss pill. Prices below are U.S. figures as of October 2026 and change often.
Lilly weight-loss drug prices, October 2026
Zepbound injection (all doses)
About $1,086
$299 (2.5 mg), $399 (5 mg), $449 (7.5 to 15 mg) with a refill within 45 days
Foundayo pill
Not published at the same level
$149 to $349 depending on dose, with launch offers through December 2026
Novo Nordisk Wegovy injection (for comparison)
About $1,349
$349 standard doses; $399 for Wegovy HD 7.2 mg
Two patterns stand out. First, list prices for weight-loss injections sit around $1,000 to $1,350 a month. Second, both companies now sell directly to patients at $299 to $449 a month when insurance will not pay. A new drug entering this market in 2027 or 2028 would most likely be priced against these numbers, not far above them.
What Retatrutide Might Cost: Three Scenarios
These are informed guesses, not Lilly figures.
- 1Priced at parity with Zepbound: a list price near $1,100 a month, with a self-pay option around $400 to $500. This is the most common prediction among analysts, because Lilly already competes on price with Novo Nordisk.
- 2Priced at a premium: a list price above Zepbound, justified by larger weight loss (about 28% at the top dose in TRIUMPH-1, versus about 21% for Zepbound in its main trial). A premium is possible but would face pushback from insurers.
- 3Priced lower: unlikely at launch, but prices across the whole GLP-1 class have been falling since 2025 under pressure from employers, Medicare and direct-to-consumer competition.

Will Insurance Cover Retatrutide?
Coverage will be decided plan by plan after approval, and it will probably look like Zepbound coverage today:
- 1Commercial insurance: many employer plans cover weight-loss drugs, many do not. Expect prior authorization and BMI requirements.
- 2Medicare: since July 2026, a Medicare GLP-1 Bridge program lets eligible beneficiaries get Wegovy or Zepbound for a $50 monthly copay. Whether retatrutide joins that program will depend on negotiations after launch.
- 3Medicaid: varies by state.
- 4Self-pay: if Lilly follows its own pattern, retatrutide will be available through LillyDirect at a cash price for people without coverage.
The "Retatrutide" Sold Online Is Not the Same Thing
Search for retatrutide cost today and you will find vials priced at anywhere from $100 to $500. These are research chemicals, often labeled "GLP-3" or "not for human use." They are not made by Lilly, are not checked by any regulator, and may contain the wrong dose, impurities or nothing at all. Buying them is not a way to get retatrutide early; it is a way to inject an unknown substance. We explain this in what is retatrutide and in our guide to the trial dosing, which is the only dosing that has been studied.
The only legitimate way to receive retatrutide before approval is to enroll in a clinical trial. Lilly lists its trials on ClinicalTrials.gov.
When Will You Be Able to Buy It?
If Lilly files in the first quarter of 2027 and FDA takes the usual 10 to 12 months to review a new obesity drug, approval would land in late 2027 or early 2028. A priority review could shorten that. A rejected biologic filing, or a manufacturing issue, could lengthen it. Supply is another question: Lilly has spent heavily on new factories since the tirzepatide shortages of 2023 and 2024, and has said it is preparing capacity for retatrutide before launch.
We will update this article as soon as Lilly announces a price. Until then, treat any specific retatrutide price you see online as a guess or a sales pitch.
FAQ
There is no price yet. Lilly has said it will set one after FDA review. Based on Zepbound, a list price near $1,100 a month and a self-pay option in the $300 to $500 range would be in line with the current market.
Nothing, because it is not for sale. Products sold online as retatrutide are unapproved research chemicals and are not Lilly's drug.
Probably not at launch. New drugs with stronger results usually launch at or above the price of existing ones. Prices across the GLP-1 class have been falling, though, so the self-pay price may be lower than it would have been a few years ago.
That will be decided after approval, plan by plan. Expect rules similar to Zepbound: prior authorization, BMI thresholds and, for Medicare, possible inclusion in the GLP-1 Bridge program.
Lilly plans to file for approval in the first quarter of 2027. Approval and launch would most likely follow in late 2027 or 2028.
